19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to force a decider.

He rescued four initial break points in a close final set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
